Submission guidelines
You don't need perfect words. Here is what to expect when you write in.
Draft for owner review. This copy is a starting point written for the first version of the site. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer. The owner should review and adapt it before launch.
Before you write
- Leave out full names, workplaces, addresses, phone numbers and anything that could identify you or someone else.
- Keep it under 3,000 characters. One real question is better than five.
- Questions about medical, legal or financial decisions are better taken to a qualified professional.
- If you are in danger or crisis, please contact local emergency services rather than writing here.
Private by default
Every letter is stored privately. Nothing is published automatically. Public articles are written and edited separately from your original.
Publication permission
The permission box is optional and separate from sending. If you tick it, we record the time. We may then publish an edited version with identifying details removed. You can withdraw permission at any time through the contact page.
Replies
A reply is not guaranteed, and there is no timeline. Every letter is read.
Sample letters
Letters on this site marked “illustrative sample” were written for the site and are not from real readers.
